What is a Behavioral Health Tech?
A Behavioral Health Tech supports or assists medical professionals such as doctors and nurses who specializes in treating people with mental health and behavioral problems such as Drug addiction, Individuals with autism, ADHD, etc. Apart from assisting in the treatment processes, the job also requires to work with those who are on the autism spectrum and assist them in their daily activities and working with kids especially those who are in a group home.
Absolute Home Health Training Center offers Behavioral Health Tech course for $399.00 (includes a $100 non-refundable registration fee). The course takes place in three different sessions, every Monday to Thursday, which you can select according to your preference. In the morning, the class starts at 9am until 1pm. Then another session in the afternoon from 1pm to 4pm. For the evening class, it begins at 5pm and ends at 9pm. You can also just let the team of Absolute Home Health Training Center to assign you to a class if you have a more flexible schedule.

Essentially, a Certified Behavioral Health Technician Certification credential serves as proof that a Behavioral Health Tech has the required skills and competencies in the following fields: Foundations of Behavioral Health; Direct Care and Recovery Support; Conflict Resolution and Safety; and Professional Responsibility. What are the requirements to acquire a Certified Behavioral Health Technician Certification?
The Florida Certification Board has quite an extensive list for Behavioral Health Tech who aim to be certified. For starters, they must have a proof of formal education, can be a high school diploma, General Equivalency Degree High School Diplomas, or General Equivalence Degrees that are eligible for acceptance in CHEA-accredited colleges and universities.
A 30-hour content-specific training is also part of the requirement. Specifically, the training must include the following:
· Clinical Competence (8 hours)
· Maintaining Client and Personal Safety (4 hours)
· Documentation and Patient Confidentiality (4 hours)
· Ethical and Professional Responsibilities (4 hours)
· Electives (10 hours)
A 1,000 hour work experience related to behavioral and mental health is also a must. Strictly, the work must be directly connected to the core competencies of a Certified Behavioral Health Technician and must have taken place within the last 5 years. However, it should be noted that volunteer work is not counted as an eligible work experience as per Florida Certification Board.
Additionally, 24 hours of on-the-job supervision of the applicant’s performance of behavioral and mental health-related services. But, for certification purposes, Florida Certification Board’s standard rate is 3 hours per week/156 hours per year. Lastly, three professional letters of recommendation for the certification must be submitted.
